We started as Enabled Word in 2018, a business dedicated to building better leaders and teams through adaptive training and consulting. We published a few articles, established a minor social media presence, and barely struck a chord with a handful of subscribers before hanging up the jersey and hitting ‘pause.’ To spare you the details, we weren’t ready–I wasn’t ready, as the owner and an aspiring leader seeking to push other aspiring leaders forward. I had more to learn, more growth to undertake, and not a vivid enough vision of the future (ironic, I know).
As organizations private and public, for-profit and not, we lack leadership. Not that we don’t have enough people in “management” positions. We just haven’t prepared them to lead. Not them, nor the people whose lives and livelihoods are entrusted to them. If you’ve ever been part of a large organization, you’ve likely experienced continuing education and training programs. It may have been developed by HR internally, contracted by HR with another company, or pursued with a third-party as prerequisite to a promotion or raise. These courses aim to prepare you for the “next step” and enable your success at increasing levels of responsibility. The efforts are usually well-intentioned, and usually inadequate. We build courses to the “lowest common denominator” (one of our most hated phrases) in formats easily distributed and measured for completion. It all goes back to metrics, the numbers we can list on a slide or spreadsheet we use to prove our ‘worth’ to our bosses. Leadership requires continuous education. But there’s a lot more to education than structured coursework and memorized procedures. Real education means experiential learning, self-driven exploration, and the freedom to seek new ideas at your own pace and based on your own questions. This is what Enabled Lead does.
In 2020, we conceived Enabled Word as something new and totally different from its predecessor. We build tailored leadership education and individual coaching programs using the Teach-Train-LEAD model and with supporting material licensed from worldwide development group, The John Maxwell Team. This platform enables self-education through regular content updates and multiple collections of learning resources. Then when you’re ready, connect with us on a call or by email and see what we can really do to help you become the leader you want to be. Every few days, you’ll find a new entry in the blog with a personal lesson, book recommendation, or steps to lead better now. Nothing’s off the table; we’ll touch on everything from team-building to personal development, communication to crisis management, celebrating good performance to talking about bad performance.
We’re building. We’re building a presence, a collection of robust tools and resources, and a community of aspiring leaders ready to do better. We’re grateful you stopped by and spent a few minutes with us. Subscribe now to receive special announcements and early access to learning materials. We welcome all your feedback, especially the negative stuff. What can we do better? Your time is precious, so is your experience. Enjoy Enabled Word … stay safe and lead well.
